False Claim: Skin might be used to make wallets after MAiD

This one is almost too ridiculous to respond to, but here we are.

We’re not sure how we missed this one, but in a February 2 appearance on the Cheryl Westall podcast, Kelsi Sheren again returned to her false claim that people are being forced to donate their organs in order to receive MAiD. But this time, she appeared to go even further, linking MAiD, organ donation, black markets, and “skin wallets” into the same conversation.

To be precise, she does not say in one clean sentence that the skin of people who had MAiD is definitely being turned into wallets. But she does suggest that after what she calls a “MAiD murder,” people’s organs and tissues — including skin — may be taken, before moving directly into claims about black markets where human body parts are sold, including to make “skin wallets.”

Kelsi Sheren has repeatedly objected to being called a conspiracy theorist. But when someone publicly alludes to the idea that people who receive MAiD may have their skin taken and sold into a black market to make wallets, it becomes very difficult to describe that as anything else.

There is, of course, no evidence whatsoever that this is happening (did that need saying).

There is also no requirement to donate organs or tissue in order to receive MAiD. Skin donation is real, but donated skin is used for medical purposes, such as grafts for burn patients. The idea that medical providers, hospitals, transplant organizations, or tissue banks are colluding in a black market to turn the skin of MAiD patients into wallets is not a serious allegation.

Verdict: Full-blown conspiracy theory

*Side note, Sheren also claims that lungs and hearts can’t be donated after MAiD. This is not true. Both the heart and the lungs can be donated and transplanted after a MAiD death. A few minutes after making that statement, Sheren talks about the heart being transported to America for transplant after the donor had MAiD in Canada.
