MAiD in Canada - An Introduction
Maamwesying NSCHS sign-up form
We are pleased to offer MAiD in Canada: An Introduction to members of Maamwesying North Shore Community Health Services during the month of December.
We have reserved 100 seats for you. Seats will be granted on a first-come-first-enrolled basis. We will offer additional seats in January if more than 100 wish to take this course.
This introductory course is designed for members of the public, healthcare professionals, and anyone looking for a clear, evidence-informed understanding of medical assistance in dying (MAiD) in Canada. If you know someone outside of the Maamwesying NSCHS’s team that would like to take this course, they can sign up on our public page at: https://www.maidincanada2016.ca/free-maid-courses
The purpose of this course is to educate, not to persuade. It is not intended to convince anyone to adopt a particular position on medical assistance in dying. We recognize that MAiD is a deeply personal and sometimes challenging subject, and that each person has the right to form their own beliefs and opinions about this end-of-life option.
It is also important to recognize that no one in Canada, including healthcare professionals, can be compelled to provide or assist in providing MAiD. Healthcare professionals retain the right to conscientiously object to participating in MAiD, while remaining subject to their applicable professional obligations.
Our hope is that this course provides the information needed to better understand how MAiD works in Canada, regardless of one's personal views on the subject.
MAiD in Canada: An Introduction is an introductory course covering the history of MAiD in Canada, current eligibility criteria, safeguards, and other key elements of the federal MAiD framework.
No previous knowledge or experience is required. The course takes approximately 45–60 minutes to complete and can be completed at your own pace over more than one sitting.
To take the course, please complete the registration form below. At the beginning of December, we will email you to let you know that your course access is open and provide your login information and password.
