News Media

Toronto Star - October 7, 2025

We published an in-depth analysis of the latest MAiD statistics, showing a clear trend toward national stabilization after years of rapid growth. Our reporting broke the story, which was later picked up by the Toronto Star, who worked with us and our data to publish their own piece expanding on our findings.

The Atlantic - December 2025

After we published our response to The Atlantic’s September feature on Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada, they reached out and invited us to submit a shorter version for their Commons section. We were glad for the opportunity. The original article felt like an 11,000 word attack on MAiD, so being offered space to correct even a small part of it felt worthwhile.

CBC News - November 17, 2025

In this CBC News story examining new data on Medical Assistance in Dying in Manitoba, we shared our perspective on how MAiD programs often evolve after legalization. Drawing on our experience as registered nurses and MAiD educators, we discussed what the data may reveal about how MAiD practice stabilizes over time.

Chatelaine - November 19, 2025

In this Chatelaine article by Kelly Korbin, we contributed clinical insight to help answer common questions about Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada, offering practical perspective on how MAiD works and what patients and families can expect.

MAiD in Canada Videos

MAiD and mature minors is one of the most complex and debated issues in Canada’s assisted dying framework. In this first conversation, clinical ethicist Eric Mathison joins us to explain the mature minor doctrine and the ethical questions that will shape future discussions.

I spoke with Megan Sheldon from Be Ceremonial about the role of ceremony in medical assistance in dying. MAiD can allow time for intentional rituals that help people, families, and care teams mark the end of life with reflection, connection, and meaning.

Last week I talked to Eric Mathison about the ethical implication of considering Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) for mature minors. As interesting as that conversations was, it is only one part of the story. Today, in Part 2, I talked to Emmett Macfarlane about MAiD and mature minors in the context of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

In this video, we explain the eligibility criteria for Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada in clear, plain language. We walk through the legal requirements, what “grievous and irremediable medical condition” means in practice, and the key differences between Track 1 and Track 2.

In Part 3 of our deep dive into Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) and Mature Minors, I sat down with Dr. Adam Sandell — a family physician and occasional MAiD provider — to get his perspective from the front lines of care.

This video is a direct response to the false and harmful claims about MAiD made by Jordan Peterson and Kelsi Sheren. We break down their statements point by point and replace misinformation with clear, evidence-based facts about MAiD in Canada.

Reports

Sixth Annual Report on MAiD - Health Canada - November 2025

Our analysis of isolation and loneliness among MAiD recipients helped inform broader national discussions on the topic. Work we published examining British Columbia data was later referenced and extended in Health Canada’s Sixth Annual Report on Medical Assistance in Dying, which replicated aspects of our analysis at a national level using all reported MAiD cases across Canada in 2024.
